Practicum Student Opportunties

What are Practicums like at Project Whisper Counselling & Psychotherapy?

At Project Whisper Counselling & Psychotherapy, we are proud to collaborate exclusively with Yorkville University to offer a virtual graduate internship program for students in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) program. Our interns gain hands-on experience in both the clinical and administrative aspects of private practice within a fully virtual setting, while contributing to our mission of providing accessible care through reduced-rate, sliding scale, or pro bono therapy services.

Interns have the opportunity to observe, co-counsel, or provide therapy remotely to a diverse range of clients, including individuals, children, families, couples, and groups. Our clients face a variety of challenges such as anxiety, trauma, stress, poverty, risk of homelessness, school-related issues, family dynamics, and chronic illness. This virtual format allows for flexible, convenient access to therapy for both clients and interns.

Through this exclusive partnership with Yorkville University, we aim to equip future therapists with the skills needed to navigate teletherapy in a private practice environment, while continuing to provide compassionate and affordable mental health care to the community.

Requirements For Practicum

Please note that if you are an MACP student, you need to obtain your RP (Qualifying) status prior to starting practicum to be able to complete your supervision hours.

As our practicum is highly competitive we encourage you to apply as soon as possible, and encourage you to provide evidence of clinical trainings and/or direct client experience outside of your school program in your resume and cover letter.

All practitioners, staff and students at Project Whisper must provide a vulnerable sector screening prior to beginning with us. Information on how to apply for this will be provided during your onboarding.

Once practicum has started, all students are required to engage in weekly individual supervision with their supervisor, and monthly group consultation with another senior clinician virtually. There may also be opportunities to observe monthly clinician group consultation sessions.

Student interns must be available at least one evening a week, unless otherwise agreed upon with your supervisor and the Clinic Director. They need to have access to a private, secure space that can be used to attend supervision and sessions remotely. All students are required to facilitate or co-facilitate at least one of our free drop-in support groups which currently run in evenings.

During practicum student interns are also expected to host at least one workshop or lunch and learn for the team. This is for team knowledge sharing only and can be on any topic, intervention or issue you have an interest in or experience with.
